When

Wed July 20th, 2016 00:00 to Wed July 20th, 2016 00:00

As part of NQIT’s efforts in the training of a Quantum Technologies workforce, we will be holding a 1-day interactive workshop focusing on cross-disciplinary skills. The Workshop will be held on July 20th, following the User Forum on July 19th, in the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford. It is open to all stakeholders of the Quantum Technologies programme, in universities, industry, and government.

The day will include sixteen 90-minute workshops, divided into four themes:

  1. Entrepreneurship and business skills: Technology transfer, setting up a spin-out company, media skills: the key topics a budding quantum entrepreneur needs to know. Aimed at university scientists and engineers with an idea.
  2. Applications of Quantum Technologies: What do we mean by ‘quantum computing’, ‘quantum simulation’, or ‘quantum sensing’? What new capabilities or improved performance will they provide and what are their limitations? Aimed at technologists, government agencies and businesses who want to know more.
  3. Engineering skills: Brief introductions to a few of the more ubiquitous engineering topics in quantum technologies, such as embedded systems, cryogenics, and microwave electronics. Aimed at scientists turning laboratory experiments into engineered devices and systems.
  4. Building a technology: What goes into the development of quantum technologies? Expert-led discussions on various strategic topics that will be important to the development of the sector as a whole, including responsible research and innovation and road-mapping exercises. Aimed at all stakeholders.

A detailed programme and registration will be available on this website soon.
