The interconnections between individual quantum processors of the Q20:20 quantum engine are essential components in order to make the system scalable. For these interconnections high efficient interfaces between the stationary qubits in the quantum processors (atomic ions) and the ‘flying’ qubits for the data exchange (photons) are required. Our contribution to the Quantum Technology Hub for Networked Quantum Information Technologies is to develop and implement such quantum interfaces based on optical fibre cavities. We will combine optical fibre cavities with trapped ion quantum processors to faithfully transfer the quantum state of the ions to photons and back.
